Are you really as much of a Type-A proactive planner as you think you are? That’s the question Fox Business is asking its readers.
A new poll finds that only 34% of Americans have drafted a will. That means that about two-thirds of the American population have absolutely no plan in place for their eventual passing.
That represents millions of families that are unprotected from the incredible burden that can arise when an estate passes without any planning. After all, it isn’t the deceased who is saddled with that weight — it’s his or her loved ones.
The funny thing is that most of the other 66% know they aren’t being as responsible as they should be when it comes to estate planning. This includes people who are otherwise very gung ho in managing their lives. They save for college, set funds aside for vacation, visit their doctors like clockwork, and go through a whole tree’s worth of to-do lists every year. But this one issue eludes their eagle eye.
As Fox Business reports, 69% of Americans admit that at some point they seriously considered drafting a will but then failed to follow through.
Kicking a can down the road only means you’ll have to kick it twice. Isn’t peace of mind — not to mention legal protection for your family — a better alternative?
