Safety Tips for Valentines Day

Safety Tips for Your Valentines Day

Whether you are helplessly in love or convinced the holiday was created by greeting card companies, small errors in judgment can lead to huge safety issues. This Valentine’s Day keep in mind some basic tips that can help avoid some major problems. Here are some ways to make sure that you stay safe and happy this Valentine’s Day.

Cooking Safety Tips

  • Forgotten meals in the oven or on the stovetop can lead to fires – use timers to remind you of the meal
  • Make sure saucepan handles don’t stick out so they don’t get knocked off the stove
  • It’s important to stay nearby, even if something is merely sitting in the oven or simmering
  • If at all possible, practice ahead of time to avoid burning or undercooking
  • Beforehand, check the batteries in your smoke alarm for your peace of mind

Fire Safety Tips

  • If you haven’t started your fireplace in a long time, inspect and test it beforehand
  • Never leave lit candles unattended – put burning candles out when you leave the room and make sure they’re completely out at night before you go to bed
  • Place candles carefully – make sure they are on a stable surface away from flammable objects such as curtains, furniture, bedding, books and magazines
  • Make sure you have a working smoke alarm and test it regularly

Driving Safety Tips

Valentine’s Day is coming, which means grabbing a quick kiss may be in order. Kissing while driving is up there with texting and driving, each can be equally distracting. As no less an authority than Albert Einstein once said “Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.” Granted it could be argued that text messaging is more time-consuming than a quick kiss, taking your eyes off the road – for whatever reason – is a safety risk nonetheless. Remember to keep your Valentine’s Day safe by keeping your eyes on the road.
